BE MINE – Valentine’s Day makes a comeback

(08 /02 /2017)

Valentine’s Day had an unexpected return to popularity last year and this year should prove to be no exception.  With restaurant attendance on the decline since Christmas and New Year celebrations wrapped, restaurateurs are seeing an upturn in interest for arguably the most romantic date on the calendar.

One of the reasons for the absence in covers could be the rise of up-market restaurants taking advantage of home delivery services like Uber Eats.   It proves have become lazier and it easier than ever to just stay home.  What you lack in atmosphere and silver service has been balanced with restaurant quality food and convenience.

However, romance is still alive and it is days such as Valentine’s that are truly enticing people to make the effort to ditch the date on the couch and enjoy all that restaurants have to offer.  You now have an excuse to spoil that special someone and make date night fun again.

“We have already had plenty of enquiries and the bookings are mounting up”, says a waiter at the Charming Squire in Brisbane’s Southbank.  They have partnered with the Wheel of Brisbane to offer a unique date experience just for February 14.  You can enjoy the entire evening in a private gondola with canapés and a three-course meal with matched wine from Sirromet winery.  Now you can’t get that kind of view from home.

Restaurants have more options to make special, or fixed, menus and these can make the financial difference. The menu prices don’t have increase, instead packages are offered and makes it irresistible to the customer to have just one course. This in turn can make a higher yield for your establishment.

Valentines is proving to be great for the extended hospitality industry too.  Most hotels offer a slew of romantic themed food and beverage experiences bundled with accommodation that take you right through to till after breakfast.  Who doesn’t love a good brunch?
